Cinque Terre is a beautiful coastal region in Italy, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and the colorful villages that cling to the cliffs.
While there are numerous hotels in the area, finding the best ones with exceptional views can make your stay even more memorable. I have broken down the pros and cons of staying in each city in Cinque Terre to help you make your decision on where to stay.
However, I have not included the town of Corniglia in this post, as I do not recommend staying in Corniglia due to the complexity of getting to and from Corniglia.
In this post, I have hand selected the best places to stay in Cinque Terre with stunning views for you!

What is it Like Staying in Manarola, Cinque Terre?
Manarola is often regarded as one of the most picturesque and charming of the Cinque Terre villages, and it offers a unique blend of natural beauty, colorful architecture, and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s especially ideal for nature lovers and hikers.
While I have personally never stayed in Manarola, I would definitely consider it for our next visit based on the hotel choices I have found below!
The benefits of staying in Manarola are:
- Scenic Beauty: Manarola is renowned for its breathtaking views, particularly its iconic harbor and colorful buildings perched on the cliffs. It’s often considered one of the most picturesque villages in the Cinque Terre.
- Quaint and Charming: Manarola has a more intimate and traditional atmosphere compared to some of the larger, busier villages. It’s known for its romantic and quaint streets, making it an excellent choice for couples and those seeking a quieter escape.
- Photography Opportunities: The village’s narrow alleyways, vineyards, and dramatic cliffs provide excellent opportunities for photography enthusiasts.
- Relaxing Atmosphere: Manarola offers a more relaxed pace of life compared to some of the larger, busier villages, making it a peaceful and idyllic place to unwind.
The drawbacks of staying in Manarola are:
- Limited Beach Access: Manarola’s rocky coastline means that it doesn’t have extensive sandy beaches. If you prioritize sunbathing on the beach, you may need to travel to nearby villages like Monterosso for that experience.
- Fewer Amenities: Manarola is a smaller village, so it has fewer amenities compared to larger villages like Monterosso. While you’ll find shops, restaurants, and accommodations, the selection may be more limited.
- Fewer Transportation Options: The train station in Manarola provides good access to other Cinque Terre villages, but it can be a bit more challenging to reach some destinations compared to staying in Monterosso, which is a transportation hub.
- Hilly Terrain: Like many Cinque Terre villages, Manarola has steep and hilly terrain, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues.

The drawbacks of staying in Vernazza are the same as Manarola and Riomaggiore:

What is it Like Staying in Riomaggiore, Cinque Terre?
Both of the times I have been to Cinque Terre, I have stayed in Riomaggiore! So what keeps bringing me back to this town over the other four?
I honestly love the harbor area the most in Riomaggiore, and the quintessential “Cinque Terre” view of town from the harbor. I also think that Riomaggiore has one of the best sunsets of all the towns!
Riomaggiore is also the furthest south of the five cities, so it makes a great place to start the hiking trail if you want to walk the entire trail.
The benefits of staying in Riomaggiore are:
- Historic Charm: The village has a rich history, and you’ll find ancient buildings, narrow cobblestone streets, and traditional architecture, giving it an authentic and charming atmosphere.
- Harbor Area: Riomaggiore’s small harbor area is a great place to relax, watch fishing boats, and enjoy the coastal ambiance. It’s also an ideal spot for photography!
- Hiking Trails: Riomaggiore is a good starting point for exploring the Cinque Terre’s hiking trails. The famous Via dell’Amore trail begins here, and you can easily access the Sentiero Azzurro and other scenic paths.
- Relaxing Atmosphere: Riomaggiore offers a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere, making it a great place to unwind and enjoy the coastal beauty.
The drawbacks of staying in Riomaggiore are the same as Vernazza and Manarola:
- Limited Beach Access: Riomaggiore’s coastline is rocky, which means there are limited options for sunbathing on sandy beaches. If you prioritize extensive beach areas, you may need to travel to nearby villages like Monterosso to enjoy a sandy beach.
- Fewer Amenities: Riomaggiore is a smaller village, so it has fewer amenities compared to larger villages like Monterosso. While you’ll find shops, restaurants, and accommodations, the selection may be more limited.
- Hilly Terrain: Like many Cinque Terre villages, Riomaggiore has steep and hilly terrain, which may be challenging for those with mobility issues.
- Limited Transportation Options: Riomaggiore has a train station providing good access to other Cinque Terre villages, but it can be a bit more challenging to reach some destinations compared to staying in Monterosso, which is a transportation hub.

6. Affittacamere Le Giare

This is the property that we stayed at during our last trip to Cinque Terre and cannot say enough good things. the staff were extremely helpful giving us restaurant suggestions and since the hotel is green certified, they are able to offer discounts on the hiking trails and the train passes to their customers!
Make sure to book a room with a balcony (three available on the second floor), in order to have a private view over Riomaggiore!
7. La Vista di Marina

This charming hotel offers stunning views of the sea and Riomaggiore from its rooms and terraces. It’s a peaceful retreat away from the crowds to watch one of the best sunset views in Riomaggiore!
What is it Like Staying in Monterosso al Mare, Cinque Terre?
Monterosso al Mare is the largest and most northern of the five villages that make up the Cinque Terre region along the Italian Riviera. Monterosso al Mare is most known for its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and picturesque scenery.
The benefits of staying in Monterosso al Mare are:
- Beautiful Beaches: Monterosso is the only village in the Cinque Terre with sizable sandy beaches, making it a great choice if you want to relax by the sea and swim.
- Larger Village: Monterosso is the largest of the five villages, which means it has more amenities, including a wider selection of restaurants, shops, and accommodations. It’s also relatively more accessible for those with mobility issues, as it has fewer steep inclines and stairs compared to other villages.
- Great Transportation Hub: Monterosso has a train station with good connections to other larger Italian cities (not just the Cinque Terre cities), making it convenient for travelers. It’s also a good starting point for hiking the Cinque Terre trails, especially if you want to walk all the way from the north to south.
The drawbacks of staying in Monterosso al Mare are:
- Crowds: Being the largest and most popular of the Cinque Terre villages, Monterosso can get crowded. But let’s be honest, every town in Cinque Terre is crowded during the tourist season!
- Less Secluded: Monterosso may feel less secluded and less “quaint” compared to some of the smaller, quieter villages in the Cinque Terre. If you’re looking for a more tranquil, off-the-beaten-path experience, you might prefer one of the other villages.
- Limited Authenticity: Some travelers find that Monterosso has a slightly less authentic feel compared to the smaller, less touristy villages. The commercialization and catering to tourists can be more apparent here.
