The Lofoten Islands in Norway are unlike anywhere I have ever seen before. The pure beauty of the cascading mountains, the quaint rorbuer clustered together to form villages, and the wild, seemingly untouched nature, will wow anyone.
While I would love to see the Northern Lights in the winter, visiting the Lofoten Islands in the summer was a great introduction to the hiking and viewpoints that the Islands have to offer.
The Summer Sun effect that occurs in late June into July also makes for a perfect time to visit because you have endless hours of daylight! Once you make it to the Lofoten Islands in Norway you are going to want to soak up every minute of these views.
Here are 24 epic photos, which exact location coordinates, from a summer in the Lofoten Islands in Norway to convince you to plan a trip now!

Village Viewpoints of Lofoten in Summer
1. Village of Sakrisøya on the Lofoten Islands

Located directly off of road E10, if you are standing near the Rostad Rorbuer (on the island of Olenilsøya), you will have this view of the village of Sakrisøy and the bright yellow Sakrisøy Rorbuer on the Lofoten Islands.
Location Coordinates: 67.94113, 13.1162
Time shot: Dusk
Pro Tip: You can see the yellow boats in the water, this is where you can rent kayaks through Reine Adventure.
2. Reine Village Viewpoint

This is possibly the best view I’ve ever had from a parking lot. The iconic view of the village of Reine is from the short term parking lot outside of the town. Right as you turn of E10 to take the road toward Reine, you will find this parking lot at that intersection.
Location Coordinates: 67.92838, 13.08371
Time shot: Mid-morning
3. Village of Hamnøy on the Lofoten Islands

The Hamnøy Bridge (search Hamnoy Bridge Photospot Viewpoint in GoogleMaps) is the place to get this iconic shot of Hamnøy on the Lofoten Islands. The rorbuer (fishing cabins) in the background are the famous Eliassen Rorbuer where you can actually book a room.
Location Coordinates: 67.94534, 13.1314
Time shot: Dusk
4. Fishing Cabins Approaching Hamnøy on the Lofoten Islands

The traditional fishing cabins, or rorbuer, are iconic to the Lofoten Islands. There is no better photo to remember the essence of the Lofoten Island than the rorbuers with a mountain backdrop, and this spot does just that.
If you are looking to wake up to this same view, these historic and brightly colored seaside huts have been transformed into accommodations for travelers. Some of the most well known are Reine Rorbuer, Sakrisøy Rorbuer, Eliassen Rorbuer, Å Rorbuer, Svinøya Rorbuer, and Henningsvær Rorbuer.

Location Coordinates: 67.94788, 13.13715
Time Shot: Dusk
5. Fishing Boats Approaching Hamnøy on the Lofoten Islands

Just a couple seconds down the E10 from the above photography spot, is a gorgeous little cove where many fishing boats are parked at night. We drove by when the sun was setting behind the mountain. The lighting at this spot at that time of day is perfection.
Location Coordinates: 67.9465, 13.13743
Time shot: Dusk
6. Fishing Village of Å on the Lofoten Islands

The fishing village of Å is the furthest south that you can drive on the Lofoten Islands. Once you have made it here, the rest is pure Norwegian Sea.
The village of Å is a fun town to explore because they have recreated the development of Lofoten fishing from 1840 to 1960 showcased in the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum. There are multiple buildings to visit with varied exhibitions, but my favorite was stopping by the traditional bakery, Bakeriet på Å, for a cinnamon roll.
The above shot was taken from the end of a long pier, looking back at the town. There are many gorgeous photos you can take here, so have fun with it!
Location Coordinates: 67.8802, 12.98931
Time Shot: Mid-day
7. The Sleepy Fishing Town of Sørvågen

One of my favorite viewpoint on Sørvågen was near the Maren Anna Restaurant dock. After checking out this view, head over the Maren Anna for some local cuisine and beers.
Location Coordinates: 67.88988, 13.02427
Time shot: Mid-day
8. The Loan Yellow Cabin on Sakrisøya on the Lofoten Islands

This Lofoten photography spot is such an iconic one. The loan yellow fishing cabin is located on the village of Sakrisøya on the Lofoten Islands. But it gets even better, you can actually stay in this cabin at Olstind Rorbuer.
Finding the viewpoint where the peak of the cabin aligns with the peak of the mountain proved to be a little more challenging than originally expected. However, you can check out the saved Google Map (or the coordinates below) for this exact photo locations!
Location Coordinates: 67.94143, 13.11517
Time shot: Late evening
9. The Village of Henningsvær on the Lofoten Islands

The village of Henningsvær was the furthest village north that we visited during our stay on the Lofoten Islands. There are spectacular viewpoints all over this village, including the boating area with the mountains as a backdrop or the soccer field (see number 24 below). This particular one I had never seen before, so it instantly became my favorite.
This location is right by the famous soccer field, and you can find this spot from the coordinates below.
Location Coordinates: 68.14874, 14.20024
Time shot: Mid-day
The Roadside Landscapes of Lofoten in Summer
10. E10 leaving Reine village and Approaching Sakrisøy on the Lofoten Islands

There are so many incredible photography spots that you will see from the car. This one specifically was taken from inside the car on route E10 leaving Reine village and approaching Sakrisøy.
The landscapes in the Lofoten Islands change so quickly because of the angle of the mountains and islands. Keep your eyes open every minute you can!
Location Coordinates: 67.931245, 13.077054
Time shot: Dusk
11. The Curvy Road with Mountain View Along E10 Near Ramberg

I have named this photography spot as “the Curvy Road with Mountain View” which can be found along E10 after you pass the town of Ramberg on your way to Reine.
Ii you can believe it, I took this shot while being the passenger the moving car!
Photography Tip: You can actually capture really good photos of landscapes and scenery without actually stopping the car. Set your shutter speed to 1/1000 minimum and snap away!
Location Coordinates: 68.060208, 13.189573
Time shot: Dusk
12. Near the Akkarvikodden Reststop Before Hamnøy

One of my favorite parts of driving around the Lofoten Islands was how quickly the landscape patterns changed. This created endless opportunities to capture amazing landscape photos on the Lofoten Islands.
Sometimes we had to put a limit on the number of times we pulled the car over, otherwise I would have photographed the entire island.
This exact spot is right at the Akkarvikodden Reststop before the tunnel to Hamnøy.
Location Coordinates: 67.962312, 13.152226
Time shot: Dusk
13. E10 leaving Reine village and Approaching Sakrisøy on the Lofoten Islands

Another moving car shot, this is one of my favorites caught along E10 leaving Reine village and approaching Sakrisøy.
Again, set your camera shutter speed between 1/1000 and 1/2500 and see what kind of cool shots you can get without even pulling over the car!
Location Coordinates: 67.93558, 13.07429
Time shot: Mid-morning
14. Mountain View near Ramberg off E10

Another photo shot from a moving car, you will have endless opportunities for these type of landscape views will driving around Lofoten. This particular mountain view was near the town of Ramberg off E10.
Location Coordinates: 68.071636, 13.198877
Time shot: Approaching dusk
15. Rocky Roadside Beach off E10 near the town of Napp

One of the first roadside stops we made was the first day as we were driving from the Leknes airport to our apartment in Sørvågen. This photography spot is along the side of the road off E10 near the town of Napp and there is an easily accessible pull over area for cars.
It is likely you will see other people pulled over here as well to enjoy the view. This was our first introduction of the magnitude of the mountains on the Lofoten Islands, and what an introduction it was!
Location Coordinates: 68.111392, 13.342522
Time shot: Approaching dusk
16. View from E10 near Lofoten Beach Camp

This photography spot is along the road off E10 near the Lofoten Beach Camp. If you are visiting Lofoten in the summer, the Lofoten Beach Camp is also a great place to stay beachside for relatively cheap. Here you can set up mobile homes (280 NOK or roughly 33 USD), tents (200 NOK or roughly 24 USD), or rent from their cabins or beach houses on the property.
Location Coordinates: 68.10377, 13.28098
Time shot: Dusk
17. Along the road 818 near Ballstad on the Lofoten Islands

Venturing off the main road E10, we found ourselves along the road 818 near Ballstad. It is easy to explore the back roads on Lofoten in the summer since you don’t have to worry weather or road conditions.
Location Coordinates: 68.079464, 13.546243
Time shot: Mid-day
18. The Backroad off E10 Between Vestvågøya and Leknes

We spent a lot of time driving up and down E10, as it is the main road on Lofoten that connects all major villages. However, on our way back from the Lofoten Viking Museum, we decided to take a back road that would eventually connect us back to E10. Wow was this a great decision!
After you pass Vestvågøya on E10, before you reach Leknes, take the back road Leiteveien that connects you back to E10 near Napp.
Here you can find fields of wildflowers, with quaint farms, and a backdrop of mountain ranges.
Location Coordinates: 68.1815, 13.62042
Time shot: Approaching dusk
19. Along 816 leaving Henningsvær towards Leknes

If you plan to visit the village of Henningsvær, then you are in for a treat. Once you turn off of E10 towards Henningsvær onto 816 keep your eye out on the right side of the road for multiple different viewpoints like this.
We pulled over along E10 when we were leaving Henningsvær and headed back towards Leknes to take this shot.
Location Coordinates: 68.178104, 14.211188
Time shot: Mid-day
Lofoten Summer Hike Vewpoints
20. Reinebringen Hike overlooking the village of Reine

Known as one of the best hikes in the Lofoten Islands, the view from the top of the Reinebringen Hike overlooks the entire village of Reine. This is a relatively short hike for the elevation gain (it is straight up most of the way). However, once you make it to the top for this view, every step was worth it.
Location Coordinates: 67.92694, 13.07776
Time shot: before dusk around 7pm
21. Ryten Hike to Kvalvika Beach Viewpoint

Photo by Manuel Meurisse on Unsplash
The view from the Ryten Hike overlooking Kvalvika Beach is a much longer hike, so prepare to spend around 2 hours getting to this viewpoint.
It is a medium-level hike, however as with the other hikes in the Lofoten Islands, it can be dangerous in the winter time with rapidly changing weather. Generally from May to September, are the best months to do any hiking in the Lofoten Islands if you are not an experienced hiker.
Location Coordinates: 68.08889, 13.09364
22. Bunes Beach Hike

Photo by Ophélie Authier on Unsplash
The Bunes Beach Hike is located on the northern side of Moskenesøy, in the western part of Lofoten. It is a relatively easy hike only requiring about 1 hour each way for most people. However, the extra ferry that it takes to get to this hike will deter a lot of people.
It is only reached by a local ferry, with daily departures from Reine. The ferry is located approximately 100 feet from the gas station in the center of the village and you will exit the ferry in the small village of Vindstad.
Location Coordinates: 67.97976, 12.96665
Other Epic Photography Spots in Lofoten in the Summer
23. Lofoten Viking Museum near Bøstad on the Lofoten Islands

The Lofton Viking Museum, called Lofotr is located near Bøstad on the Lofoten Islands and is a great afternoon activity. I enjoyed photographing the animals that lived on the pastures nearby.
Location Coordinates: 8.24395, 13.75658
Time shot: Mid-day
24. Epic Soccer Field in the village of Henningsvær on the Lofoten Islands

Photo by Patrick Keller on Unsplash
The soccer fields of Henningsvær, are very well known for being the most picturesque place to play a game of football (soccer in English). Who wouldn’t enjoy kicking around a ball for a few hours with this view?
Note: this photo was taken with a drone. The coordinates below are the location of the soccer field fro, which you could take this photo with a drone.
Location Coordinates: 68.14807, 14.20099

It’s sooo hard to choose my fav picture from these 21 but I think I can break it down to my top 3!! 😀 First one definitely where you’re sitting on top of the mountain, with the Norwegian flag in your hand overlooking the city of Reine, because amazing views from above are always the best!? Plus I like the lightning. Second would be the Toppøya Fishing Village, where the sun is half behind the mountain and last but not least the view from Hamnøy Bridge. So you can tell i’m totally convinced to visit the Lofoten Islands!! 🙂
Thank you so much Jules! I think the view from the Reinebringen hike was one of my all time favorites too! You hike up the backside of that mountain, until you reach the top and can see this view! It is one of the most jaw dropping hikes ive ever done! You will love it when you get a chance to go there 🙂
Such a gorgeous post, you’ve definitely convinced me to visit! I also really like how you included the times each photo was captured! 👏🏼✨
Thank you so much Madi! I found it helpful because I am often wondering that about other people’s photos!
Hello, I must say that all of your photos are great. Thank you for sharing them. I am planning a trip to Lofoten Islands in August. Question regarding exact location to take photo of Epic Soccer Field in the village of Henningsvær. You provided GPS coordinates, but when I put them into Google Map, they are of the soccer field. Your phoot shows soccer field in it. I assume that you have taken a photo from a higher altitude and from a distance. Could you please provide detail of exact location where to take this photo? Is that taken using drone?
Hi Dharmesh – first of all, I can’t wait for you to see the Lofoten Islands! Truly one of our favorite trips. Yes the capturing the exact soccer field photo in the blog is only possible using a drone. However, the village of Henningsvær is such a great spot to visit and explore even without a drone. Let me know if you have any more questions!
